Its A Cover Up!

The past couple of years has seen a deluge of cheap but fabulous dance songs covering or featuring samples of 80s songs, and it doesn't look like ending anytime soon, most of it is shit, but theres a few that aint. Like...

Beatfreakz - Superfreak (Radio Edit)

Sampling the classic disco funk track of the same name by Rick James, but you might know it better as MC Hammers - You Cant Touch This. Its a bit mad, and the video features a singing dwarf. Hurrah!

Club - Deep Inside (Radio Edit)
Sampling the Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Rollercoaster Of Love, I actually cant stop playing this cos it is a bit fabulous!

Party Pimpz - Give it Up (Radio Edit)
Not a sample of Rick Astley unfortunately, But it does have the massive sample of KC & The Sunshine Band..you know..na nana na na Baby Give It Up, Give It Up.

Mo-Zaique - Neverending Story (Radio Edit)

The Vault

Lets take a trip and it is a trip, back to the olden days of 1980.

Blood Rushing To My Head

Lets start with an actual woman pop star, yes a woman popstar in the olden times, how silly!

She performed disco classics that women and homosexuals could enjoy. She had big hair, was sultry and attractive and she seemed to suffer from abdominable pain..as the picture shows.

Diana Ross - Upside Down
http://www.uploading.com/?get=L16NOR95

See her website thingy here.
http://www.diana-web.com/

The Only Gay In 1980

Legend has it, that this band were infact actual pop robots from outer space.

Rumours also suggest they were 2 unemployed people from Liverpool. I know which one I believe.

OMD - Enola Gay

Their website from outer space is here:

Choc Muffin Please..

Next up is a band who were so big they could hold the actual world in their hands. Amazing.

As ace as this song is, I am dissapointed there is no mention of muffins anywhere
.

Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach

Quite amazingly they have a interwebsite.

The Video Vault

The Indie

Welcome to the dark side..but dont be afraid,
not all indie is shite or Pete Doherty.

Shall we get started..

Pink Is the New Blog

First up, Its a real good treat mmm yeah.

Futuristic American psychadelic rockers The Flaming Lips have a new single out, and its been remixed by only bloody Goldfrapp, a futuristic electro band.

As you can imagine this pairing results in something rather wonderful and surreal. Its like the soundtrack to a garden party in heaven.

Their new album, the amazingly titled "War Of The Mystics" is out right now.

Rocky 1,2,3,4 & 5

I love this band with every 2nd beat of my heart, I imagine God loves this band too and everyone should love this band!

As you can see, They are very very attractive and they have irish accents, yes they are Irish! Swoon.

One of the many reasons I heart this band is for the fact their early gigs consisted of cover versions of Neil Diamond & Roxette, Yes Roxette! How amazing.

Anyway they have released 2 albums, "Music In Youth" & "Flock" is the new one and is out now and you really should buy it, because it is very very good indeed!

Their new single "Rocky Took A Lover" is simply the best summer indie pop song ever. Its jingly Jangly indie pop with a soaring chorus and it will make you feel happy and tingly. If it doesnt then youre a mong.

Bad Facial Hair Alert

No one seems to know where they came from, maybe the very olden times as the
photo would make you believe, But its all lies! They are from a place they call Australia...Ooh!

Whatever their earthly origins may be, that doesnt stop them from making great big stonking anthems. As their spooky website says "Their albums are leather bound volumes on a shelf groaning with tatty magazines" and perharps more disturbingly it also says "The guy doesn't even dance"

Enough of that nonsense and just enjoy the layers of sound and epicness of one of their tracks.

Augie March - Just Passing Through

Their website from the very olden times is here too.

Not another Barry Manilow Cover

Look at the amazing umbrella! But its not raining..That can only mean one thing, these guys are wacky!

But these american indie boys sure know how to put together a jingly jangly pop tune, Reminiscent of Flaming Lips and the crashing guitars of Pavement.

The new single "Oh Mandy" is their most commercial sounding to date, and it results in an almost perfect for summer indie-pop anthem.

Spinto Band - Oh Mandy

Their strange and rather lovely website thing.

The Worm Has Turned

Cheer up love its only an mp3 blog!

Lets end with something fabulous, part electronica, part rock, this Icelandic band have put together a shuffling and moody rendition of one of the all time great tracks from Joy Divison. Amazing.

Foreign Exchange

Huzzah! Welcome to the "Foreign Exchange" an amazing trip around the the world of pop. Exciting..Yes!

Lets not delay it any further then..

Carefull Now.

Lets kick it off with a trip to Sweden, and euro-popsters Da Buzz.

They've been kicking about for a while now, but for some reason are still making some fabulous pop-dance tunes for us to enjoy. How nice of them!

"Without Breaking" is a brilliant piece of euro pop, so just as well its their current single.

Da Buzz - Without Breaking

A website thing.
http://www.dabuzz.nu/

Thats why mums goto Iceland.

Off we go, to the land of puffins, ice hotels, pixies and Bjork. Yes its Iceland. And awaiting us is Trabant. A bunch of quite attractive men. As you can see.

And really, this is the stuff that Daft Punk should be making. Its fabulous glamorous electro nonsense, and its named after bits of a keyboard. Random!

Trabant - Enter Spacebar

They have a web site thing too..

Strangers in The Night

Its back to Sweden (the land of pop) and the sounds of the quite frankly fabulous Jeremiha.

They describe their influences as Depeche Mode, AHA, The Cure and quite bizzarely, Bon Jovi. And we can tell that by the stunning range of haircuts and facial hair in the "brooding" photograph to your right.

Infact I would describe them as a cross between Lorraine & The Killers, so as you can imagine, they are quite good.

This song "Strangers" will be released in September 2006, and is how the comeback single by the Killers should have sounded like.

Jeremiha - Strangers

And because they are fabulous Ive included the title track of their
album and it is a very large and lovely ballad.

I Need A Hero

I think we should pop over to Greece now, where awaiting us is sultry pop vixen
Helena Paparizou, you might recall she won Eurovision in 2005, yes, she did.

And if you can take your eyes off her quite astonishing hat in the picture, then you will be able to hear her new single "Heroes"

Its a really rather jolly pop-dance song, and has even went to No1 in the land of pop music itself, Sweden.

Helena Paparizou - Heroes (Freerunners Radio Edit)

The Games We Played

And finally its back to Sweden, and one of my favourite euro-popsters, It is of course the lovely Mr Andreas Johnson..who you may remember had a rather big hit with "Beautiful" here in the UK a few years ago.

But coming back to the present day and he his still going strong, he even entered a song into this years Swedish Eurovision group..sadly it wasnt picked.

Anyway his new single Sunshine of mine, is a glorious and lilting (as you would expect) little pop ditty. Its almost country but its not and with a rousing chorus as the one here, who really cares!

Wind & Grind..Yes its she with the gravely voice from ex popsters Misteeq, And shes certainly kicking off her solo career in style. Its a frantic affair, taking all the good bits of pop, rock and even a little bit of 80s electro, and turning it into something special. Could it get to No1?
http://www.uploading.com/?get=DZCOBLG4

Best Of The Rest

David Guetta Vs The Egg - Love Don't Let Me Go
Whoever thought of mashing these 2 together is a genius! Take one fabulous electro
dance song and add vocals from another euro pop-dance anthem and hey presto!
One of the best mash ups in ages..A Surefire Top 10 hit
http://www.uploading.com/?get=G6MZDNOD

Hot Chip – Colours
A lovely swirling electro torch song, Its so 80s it could be a Soft Cell B Side.
And thats never a bad thing.
http://www.uploading.com/?get=FIUU9GAM

Morning Runner - Oceans
Its Indie..but dont be afraid! As the name implies, its a lovely gentle strum along,
conjuring up images of the good ole british seaside, with seagulls and chips and
innocent love. And it does sound good when that summer sun is setting.
http://www.uploading.com/?get=6D4Y6I90

Kate Ryan - Je T'Adore
Euro-Pop anthem alert! It may have cruelly been denied a place in this years
Eurovision, but it doesn't stop it from being a fabulous pop banger!
http://www.uploading.com/?get=4NNE4GT8

Avoid!

Chico - D.I.S.C.O
Fuck Off..Now

Maria Lawson - Sleepwalking
Cast your minds back to last years X factor, can you remember her...nope neither can we,
and lifeless generic pop lke this isnt going to help.
